Healthy Eating Series #thesewingmachinebefab- Rice Mania!

After a long break we are back with the second post on our Healthy Eating Series #thesewingmachinebefab

This time we are here to target a much debated, written about, re-written about, gloated & bloated about food item: RICE . Staple of hundreds of cultures

& billions of people around the world , this food is truly a global citizen.

It has been recently under attack by health fanatics & dieticians for its unhealthy nature. I ignored it for very long as i am not a rice eater by birth. But suddenly am married into a Tamil family & YES we eat rice. Loads of it!

So here i am reading about rice! And based on my pitiful research sharing it with you all. Hope it helps girlies. Psst: It helped me!

First of all: White rice is refined & stripped of all benefits whereas on the other hand Brown/Red rice is the unrefined version or the so called WHOLE GRAIN & still has its hull and bran. So? It is quicker to cook and also easier to digest as it’s much “lighter” on the tummy.

Second:The hulls+brans provide “natural wholeness” to the brown/red rice grain and are rich in proteins, calcium, magnesium, fiber, and potassium to name a few. So lots of health benefits.

Third: The fiber content of brown/red rice keeps our bowel function at its best. That makes digestion that much easier. They are also the perfect addition to the daily diet for those seeking bowel regularity. In addition, they also makes the tummy feel full which translates to smaller meal portions. YAY!

Fourth: And the best kept secret is that brown/red rice have the highest antioxidant capacity . We usually associate blueberries, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables with rich anti-oxidant foods, but brown/red also figure in the top slot.

So eat your rice girls! Eat it guilt free :):) Just switch the white to brown or red :) (Also avoid any kind of rice at night, be it white/brown/red or whatever - Dunno if its true or not but hell, it worked for me)
